Thai Health Insurance for Expat Retirees

There is a common dilemma among expat retirees planning on retiring in Thailand which is topic of health insurance, retirement visa types such as the Non-Immigrant O-A and O-X visa requires applicants have medical insurance with coverage of at-least 3 million Thai baht.

A coverage of 3 million Thai baht is a relatively low level of coverage requirement, most international expat insurers offer health insurance plans with coverage levels in excess 1 million USD or more. However the cost of expat health insurance plans with this level of coverage for individuals aged 50+ or 60+ can start to become unaffordable, even tho they provide a substantially higher level of coverage, for most people affordability of the key deciding factor.

Fortunately for expat retirees in Thailand a number of local Thai insurance companies have created health insurance plans specifically for this market sector of retirees aged 50+. The plans are basic and provide a very limited of coverage, but are accepted by Thai immigration for Non-Immigrant O-A and O-X visa applications.

AXA Thailand is one such insurer with a plan called the AXA EasyCare Visa plan, designed specifically for long stay O-A and O-X visa types and have a sign up age up to 80 years old and renewable age until 99 years old which means you must enroll before you reach 80 years old and can continue to renew the plan until you are 99 years old.
